In March 2003, I traveled to Tasmania for an artist residency at Windgrove: A Center for Peace. I wrapped some eucalyptus trees with watercolor paper before returning to the United States.

I forgot about the paper.

A year later the paper arrived in my mailbox, gorgeously colored with deep browns and siennas, aged by time, wind, water and the sap from the trees. I played with this process for a few years, tying paper onto different trees in different climates. Here are some of those results. These experiments are part of my ongoing love affair with trees, their magic, and what they do. While this work is 20 years old, it forms a critical foundation of my interest in place, the impact of the natural world, the power of nature, and my ongoing quest to honor and respect the earth.
