I don’t remember what this image is. I harvested it from a stack of old postcards uncovered in my father-in-law’s belongings after he passed away. And then I transformed it with a wash of gesso.
The couple look outward, and appear a bit distressed. Yet their bodies entwine together, gripping, grasping each other. What or who do I grasp for courage? What key bridges certain pains? How does confidence help me? When does faking confidence help me? These questions fueled this collage, especially once I pieced the text together.
Right now the key that is bridging certain pains is knowing that I have a break from teaching, students, meetings, and super early mornings; that my husband will be home to greet me; and Oscar the cat will cuddle between my legs when I sleep, willing me to stay in bed a few minutes longer. This collage is all about the key.
Today’s prompt:
Transform a found image using gesso, acrylic paint or some other kind of masking technique. Find an uninspiring piece of text, cut out words that seem interesting and rearrange them into a new text. Add other elements to tie the two different techniques together visually and conceptually.
Everyday through December 25th, I’ll be making a 5×5 inch collage, writing a short entry on this blog and sharing a prompt for those who might want to participate along with me.
