Observing the hidden natural world grounds my work. I look for patterns, textures, and tiny stories in my surroundings, bringing them into my books, drawings, collages, paintings or sculptures. The bird anchors this practice and flies in and out of my work.
The life cycle of prey and preyed as a metaphor for human power games is at the heart of this visual language and person symbology. Robins and ravens play out the struggle between the oppressor and the oppressed. Owls, bluebirds, and wrens become symbols of hope and harmony.
